A quick check-in into the airport is on everyone’s wish list. While online check-in, printing boarding passes at home, and preferential seats have added to passenger convenience, there will be more comfort in future.
Soon, passengers will carry only cabin luggage. Boarding passes will be out of vogue. Biometric scanning will be the thing. Passengers must do biometric scanning through the DigiYatra app to facilitate check-in for a seamless entry into the airport.
DigiYatra is available on both Android and Apple-compatible phones.
Nirav Shah, chief airport officer (CAO) of SVPI airport, has indicated that the facility will start as early as this month.
DigiYatra will process passengers’ data through a facial recognition system at various checkpoints, including in security check areas.
Shah told a national daily that the average turnaround time of passengers checking into the airport with hand baggage alone would reduce by 65%, compared to 15 minutes earlier.
Airports in New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi implemented this system in December last year.
“The idea behind such a facility is to enhance passenger experience by eliminating the need for manual verification of tickets and identification documents at multiple touch points,” Arvind Tripathi, regional director of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, SVPI airport, told the daily.
After the download, passengers need to generate a DigiYatra ID by linking their identity credentials using DigiLocker or offline Aadhaar and uploading one’s picture, the Daily reported.
Customers must share the unique DigiYatra ID while booking tickets.
After web checking, the boarding pass and PNR must be updated on DigiYatra and shared with the departing airport. The departing airport will receive passenger data and ID from the airlines.
Passengers must scan their e-boarding passes on DigiYatra at the E-gate. They can enter the terminal after the installed cameras scan their faces.
