The police are set to file a 5,000-page charge sheet against Tathya Patel — the accused in the ISKCON flyover accident, making it the fastest charge sheet ever issued by the traffic police. The charge sheet, filed under Section 308, will present a comprehensive case with evidence, including circumstantial and scientific data, as well as the crucial Jaguar car report.
Tathya Patel rammed his speeding Jaguar car into a group of people late in the night of July 20, resulting in the death of nine persons and injuries to many. Following the accident, he voluntarily appeared before the police and was subsequently produced in court, where he was remanded for a period of three days. On July 24, the accused was again produced in court and remanded to judicial custody with his father.
In the court hearing, Tathya Patel’s friends who were present during the accident, including three girls, were brought in as witnesses under CrPC 164. Their statements were recorded in the presence of their parents to aid the ongoing investigation.
The report from the UK on the Jaguar car reveals that the car was traveling at a speed of 137 kmph before the accident, with no signs of braking. The car’s braking system was found to be functioning properly.In response to the recent accident and to curb traffic violations, Ahmedabad City Police and Traffic Police have jointly formulated an action plan.
Starting tomorrow, a traffic drive will be initiated in various areas, including SG Road, CG Road, and Naranpura. Violators of no parking zones and wrong-side traffic rules will face prosecution as part of the continuous drive organized with the support of cranes and other equipment.
Moreover, a special drive concerning No Parking and No Entry in different areas will be launched, aiming for a permanent solution to the issue. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will collaborate with the police to promptly remove obstacles and unauthorized structures obstructing the roads.
With the charge sheet submission and ongoing investigations, the authorities are determined to seek justice for the victims and ensure stricter penalties in cases of reckless driving and road accidents. The trial is set to continue in the coming days as the police and judicial authorities work towards a fair resolution.
