Torrent Power Ltd. (TPL) , a leading electric utility, has set up 4 EV charging stations in Ahmedabad and is likely to set up 2 more in Surat soon, with more cities to be added in the near future.
M Thennarasan, Commissioner of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, inaugurated the 4 EV Charging Stations from Torrent Power’s office at Prahladnagar, Ahmedabad on Monday. The launch was done in the presence of Robert Demann, Executive Vice President Siemens India and Smart Infrastructure Head for South Asia at Siemens Ltd.
A robust Public EV charging infrastructure is important to drive a revolution in the transportation sector by encouraging people to switch to electric vehicles and making it more convenient for them to do so. One of the major deterrents for e-vehicle buyers is the lack of sufficient number of charging stations for hassle-free long travel.
Varun Mehta – Director, Torrent Power said “We are working towards creating a widespread EV charging network that is affordable, accessible and convenient for all. By providing a reliable and extensive charging network, Torrent hopes to alleviate range anxiety and promote the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.”
Torrent’s EV charging stations, which have 60KW DC fast chargers, have been set up in Prahladnagar – Plug Point premises, Near Prahladnagar Garden, Naranpura –Torrent Power Naranpura Office, Drive-in Road – Near Saurabh Society and Raipur – Opposite Raipur Darwaja Bus Stand, near Railway Station and ST Bus Stop. Each charger can charge 2 vehicles simultaneously.
With a view to providing affordable fast charging facility, the company is currently offering charging at Rs 12 per unit, which is amongst the lowest in the city. An additional discount of 20 per cent on first charge has also been announced for a limited period.
