Mocked and isolated, transgenders continue to struggle for social acceptance across the world. But finally, they have something to smile about. A transgender from the United Kingdom has become father of a baby girl.
Caleb Bolden (27) discontinued his gender-transitioning medications in January last year when he decided to be a baby. Now, Caleb wants other transgender people to know that it’s healthy to have a child.
According to a report, Caleb and his partner, Niamh Bolden (25), always wanted a child. Niamh even took the help of a sperm donor. However, Niamh, the report claimed, suffered three miscarriages and a stillbirth of twins. They weren’t dithered despite doctors suggesting that Niamh had remote chances of conceiving.
Since Niamh’s private fertility treatment would have cost over Rs 70 lakh, Caleb decided to get pregnant. Metro UK reported that Caleb started transitioning six years ago.
Stopping his daily testosterone injections was another step. Fortune smiled at him when he found a sperm donor on social media. He gave birth to their daughter Isla-Rae Bolden in May.
Despite being ridiculed socially, Caleb enjoys being a father. He wouldn’t hesitate to become a father for the second time. “Coming off testosterone was a rocky road as I had so many hormones going around my body,” Caleb was quoted as saying. “It was soul-destroying. Transitioning is something I knew I wanted to do from a young age. But I knew for myself and my partner (parenthood) was something we had always wanted, and I wanted to give it a shot.”
