Of course, every time it rains, we curse the administrators, the roads, the potholes. Once the monsoon is over, all is again well and good. This has to stop. One place which gave an example, not by preaching or giving us an monsoon action plan but by immediately plunging into action was the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad.
Like all other places, there was water logging. Flights were unbelievably late and as usual rickshaw wallahs and private taxis were out for a kill. Amidst this situation, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport authorities went all out to help the passengers.
Four hours of incessant rains saw the city under deluge. The city recorded about 159 mm of rain. The Airport’s Monsoon Contingency Plan saw buses being plied to drop passengers across the city. This at a time when private taxis and rickshaw wallahs were going for a kill and small car owners could not come to the airport to pick their family members and visitors due to the water logging.
According to Adani Airport authorities, temporary drainage lines were set up and more pumps put into place to control the water logging.

The heavy rain and poor visibility resulted in delays for seven outgoing flights, with departures to Ranchi, Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru experiencing delays of 60 to 90 minutes. Additionally, the arrival of flights from Bengaluru, Goa, Abu Dhabi, Pune, Kolkata, Nagpur, and Chennai were also delayed due to the inclement weather. Sources reported that a Ranchi-Ahmedabad flight had to be diverted to an alternate location.
One passenger, Dr. Sharath Kumar GG from Bengaluru, expressed his frustration on Twitter, stating, “The airport has become an island with stranded flyers unable to exit. Absolutely no drainage system working here, and yet to travel 26 km to the hotel, not sure I will reach the destination.” This gentleman probably was in a hurry. The airport arranged buses for city drop.
