Twenty additional e-traffic courts have been made operational in Gujarat on Thursday, two months after the Gujarat high court and the state government launched a virtual traffic court in May with the goal of saving traffic offenders from having to appear in court and making it easier for them to pay e-challans.
The newly established e-courts are located in Subir, Vaghai and Khergam in Navsari district, Jambughoda in Panchmahal, Sanjeli and Dhanpur in Dahod, Kutiyana in Porbandar, Uchchhal in Tapi, Lilia, Kunkavav Vadia and Khambha in Amreli, Gir Gadhada in Gir Somnath, Lakhtar in Surendranagar, Sankheshwar in Patan, Suigam and Danta in Banaskantha, Poshina in Sabarkantha, Dholera in Ahmedabad and Bhesan in Junagadh.
On May 3, the first e-traffic court opened in Ahmedabad’s metropolitan court campus at Gheekanta, Ahmedabad. Its purpose was to eliminate the requirement for litigants to personally attend court proceedings, as the virtual system allows users and vehicle owners to complete all necessary procedures online. However, if an individual wishes to contest the issuance of e-challans, their case will be transferred to the respective jurisdictional courts.
According to a circular from the High Court registry, a recommendation was forwarded to the state government, urging the designation of more magisterial courts throughout the state to function as virtual traffic courts for e-challans originating from any part of Gujarat. In response, 20 courts of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) have been officially designated as e-traffic courts.
It is worth noting that the selected locations for the establishment of these virtual traffic courts are remote areas with comparatively lower traffic volumes.
