A total of 76,352 people have applied for a Schengen Visa in India throughout 2022, taking the total amount of expenses for India’s Schengen visa application fees to more than Rs 54.4 crore. The Mumbai consulate recorded the highest amount spent on visa application fees, reaching a total of Rs 40 crore, as reported by SchengenVisaInfo.com.
Following Mumbai, the consulates in New Delhi and Bangalore ranked second and third, with applicants spending nearly Rs 9,81,99,290 and Rs 4,53,48,550 on visa application fees, respectively. The number of applicants in New Delhi amounted to 13,341, while Bangalore had 6,345 applicants.
Among these figures, 13 visas were not issued at the Bangalore consulate, resulting in expenses of Rs. 92,000 approx for the affected applicants. Meanwhile, the Mumbai consulate faced a total of 7,335 visa rejections, accumulating expenses amounting to Rs 5.23 crore approx. Similarly, the New Delhi consulate experienced 1,519 rejected applications, resulting in an expense loss of Rs 9,080,33. The Kolkata and Chennai consulates reported three and five rejected applications, amounting to losses of Rs 17,950 and Rs 29,910 in visa fees, respectively.
India ranks as the third-highest country in terms of Schengen visa applicants, with a total of 671,928 applications filed, amounting to Rs 4,008.81 million in visa fees. Russian and Turkish applicants hold the top two positions, with 687,239 and 778,409 applications, respectively. Russian applicants spent Rs 4,105.58 million on visa application fees, while Turkish applicants spent Rs 4,646.47 million.
Additionally, a total of 167 applications for airport transit visas were recorded across various consulates in India. The Bangalore consulate received 24 applications, Mumbai had 122, New Delhi had 20, and Chennai had only one application. The overall recognition rate for airport transit visas was generally high, except for the Mumbai and New Delhi consulates, where the non-issuance rates reached 16.7 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively.
Regarding the rates of not issued uniform visas, the Mumbai consulate recorded the highest at 12.9 per cent, followed by 10.8 per cent in New Delhi. The rates of not issued airport transit visas and uniform visas were consistent, with Mumbai at 12.9 per cent and New Delhi at 10.9 per cent.
