The Congress party made allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that India’s debt has nearly tripled to Rs 155 lakh crore during his nine years in office. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate accused the Modi government of “economic mismanagement” and demanded a comprehensive white paper on the current state of the economy.
Shrinate asserted that since assuming power in 2014, the present government has added a staggering Rs 100 lakh crore to the national debt. She pointed out the irony in Modi’s previous criticisms of political opponents for being inefficient, incompetent, and corrupt, as she now believes those labels more accurately describe him and his administration.
Highlighting the impact of this alleged mismanagement, Shrinate emphasized the adverse effects on India’s economic growth, rampant unemployment, and rising inflation. She expressed concern over the alarming addition of over Rs 100 lakh crore to the country’s debt, stating that it has reached an unsustainable level.
Providing a comparison, the Congress leader disclosed that India’s debt stood at Rs 55 lakh crore in 2014, but has now surged past Rs 155 lakh crore. She highlighted the magnitude of the increase under Prime Minister Modi alone, which surpasses the combined debt accumulated under 14 previous prime ministers over a span of 67 years.
Shrinate criticized the Modi government for prioritizing headline management over genuine economic management, dismissing teleprompters and WhatsApp forwards as inadequate methods. In light of the deepening fault lines in the economy, she reiterated the Congress party’s demand for a white paper on the Indian economy to shed light on its current state.
The allegations made by the Congress party reflect growing concerns over India’s economic performance and debt accumulation under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
