9 Yrs Of Modi Govt: BJP Readies For 2024 LS Polls

| Updated: June 9, 2023 23:48

To mark the completion of nine years of the Narendra Modi-led government, Bharatiya Janata Party held a press conference in Ahmedabad as a part of “ Lok Sabha Jan Sampark Pravas”. In the event former housing minister of Maharashtra, Prakash Mehta, presented a concise overview of the BJP’s roadmap for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In his address, Prakash Mehta emphasised the significant achievements of the past nine years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, highlighting the remarkable transformation and development across various sectors in India. He attributed this unprecedented progress to the dynamic combination of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, stating that the BJP’s “nation first” approach guided the Prime Minister’s policies and played an important role in driving India’s development.

Indian Students brought back to country under Operation Ganga

Mehta particularly focused on the government’s efforts to elevate India’s global standing, citing the successful execution of Operation Ganga, which ensured the safe return of Indian and neighbouring countries’ students. He also mentioned the positive response received from US President Joe Biden following this global initiative.

The former minister underscored the impact of the government’s implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, which created a unified tax system across the country.

This move not only facilitated a common market but also benefited logistics and e-commerce sectors. Moreover, it curbed tax evasion and provided real-time data on supply chains, enabling small firms to access affordable financing.

Discussing the decision to withdraw ₹2000 notes from circulation, Mehta explained that it was taken to combat corruption. He highlighted a decrease in the availability of these notes in the market since September and emphasised the government’s commitment to making the country corruption-free.

Mehta shed light on Maharashtra politics, noting that the BJP has been focusing on several areas to secure seats in Maharashtra. Under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, the BJP intends to concentrate on those 40-42 seats on which they were winning for upcoming elections.

Mehta outlined the four pillars established by the Modi government over the past nine years: respect, internal and external security, welfare of the underprivileged, and infrastructure development. He emphasised that measures such as surgical strikes, border management reforms, and enhanced global engagement had significantly influenced India’s security dynamics, earning the nation the identity of “New India.”

Taking a swipe at the Congress party, Mehta criticised Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to America and his critical remarks about the Modi government. He stated that such behaviour was unbecoming, considering that Rahul Gandhi represented Indian politics on a global stage, and urged for a healthier competition instead.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to the nine years as a period of service, reiterated that every decision made during this time aimed to improve the lives of the people.

The government’s flagship initiative, the Digital India program, was launched to transform India into a digitally empowered society and a knowledge-based economy. It focuses on ensuring digital access, inclusion, empowerment, and bridging the digital divide.

The program revolves around three key vision areas: providing digital infrastructure as a core utility to every citizen, delivering governance and services on demand, and empowering citizens through digital means. Its overarching goal is to enhance the lives of citizens, expand India’s digital economy, and create investment and employment opportunities while fostering technological capabilities within the country.

Among the government’s noteworthy achievements, the rapid development of infrastructure in the country has received considerable recognition. Notable accomplishments include the construction of highways, expressways, and roads, extensive expansion of the railway network, the introduction of the indigenous Vande Bharat Express train, and the Udaan scheme for civil aviation.

As the Modi government enters its tenth year, it aims to build upon these achievements and forge ahead with its vision for a prosperous and inclusive India.
