Bajrang Punia and Sakshee Malikkh, two wrestlers, met with Anurag Thakur, the sports minister, today at his residence. The wrestlers presented the minister with five demands. Which are:
1. The wrestling organisation of India should be led by a woman.
2. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections must be fair and free.
3. Neither Brij Bhushan Singh, the former head of the WFI, nor his family are permitted to work for the WFI.
4. The wrestlers also demand the dismissal of a police case that was brought against them as a result of their protest last month on the day India’s new parliament building was dedicated.
5. They have maintained their demand that Brij Bhushan Singh be taken into custody.
The government and wrestlers have now met twice in the past five days. Late on Saturday night, they had a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss their demand that Brij Bhushan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by seven female wrestlers, be taken to task.
