| Updated: June 6, 2023 09:44

After picking up a cricket ball during a game in a school playground in Gujarat’s Patan district, a group of people allegedly attacked a Dalit man and severed his thumb, according to police.

According to a district official, the incident happened on Sunday in Kakoshi village.

He claimed that while watching a cricket match on a school playground in the village, the accused became enraged and threatened the youngster who had picked up the ball, according to the first information report (FIR).

The official claimed that they also hurled casteist insults in an effort to humiliate and terrorise Dalit community members.

The boy’s uncle Dhiraj Parmar objected, and he declared that the situation was resolved for the time being.

The official claimed that later that night, a group of seven guys carrying sharp weapons attacked the complainant Dhiraj and his brother Kirti.

According to Kirti, one of the suspects severed his thumb and gravely hurt him.

The official reported that a FIR has been filed in accordance with sections 326 (willful use of dangerous weapons to cause great bodily harm), 506 (criminal intimidation), and other pertinent parts of the Indian Penal Code as well as the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act).

He stated that efforts are being made to capture the accused.
