Rahul Gandhi has stated that there should be sufficient restrictions on data safety and security, referring to data as the “new gold.”
Gandhi made the comments on Wednesday while speaking to startup entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley who are renowned for their ground-breaking work in the fields of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies.
Rahul attempted to correlate all the innovations with the effects they would have on the average person in the isolated areas of India during a fireside talk with Plug and Play Tech Centre CEO Saeed Amidi and Shaun Shankaran, founder of FixNix Startup.
In response to a query, he said, “If you want to launch any technology in India, you have to have a system where power is relatively decentralised.” He then shared with the small group of invited entrepreneurs his personal experience of drone technology and its regulation, which, in his words, “faced massive bureaucratic hurdles.” Gandhi claimed that data is the new gold and that nations like India have recognised its true potential.
“Adequate regulations on data safety and security are required,” he stated. Gandhi assured the crowd he is not concerned about Pegasus spyware or other similar technology, nevertheless. Gandhi once claimed to be aware that his phone is being tapped. And ironically said, “Hello! Mr Modi” on his iPhone.
“I think someone is tapping my iPhone. As a country and as an individual, you must set regulations for the privacy of data information, he said.
“No one can stop you if the state decides they want to tap your phone. I feel like this,” he remarked.
“This is not a struggle worth winning if the country wants to tap the phone. I believe that the government has access to everything I do and produce” he insisted.
Rahul had said that several politicians, including himself, were being watched in March. Gandhi’s host, Shankaran, expressed his admiration for Gandhi’s grasp of the most recent technological advancements during the AI event at Plug and Play.
Gandhi was seen engrossed in the panel discussion of experts on various aspects of artificial intelligence, big data, and machine learning and their implications on mankind in general and on issues like governance, social welfare measures, as well as disinformation and misinformation, while sitting in the front row of the Plug and Play auditorium with Indian Overseas Congress chairperson Sam Pitroda and some other important aides who have been travelling with him from India.
