Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava and nine others were sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment by a sessions court in Gujarat’s Narmada district. The court also imposed a fine on them of Rs 10,000.
The court pronounced them guilty under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, but acquitted them under sections 395 (dacoity), 504 (causing intentional hurt) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation).
However, Rajpipla court’s judge, NR Joshi, ordered their release on probation under the Probation of Offenders Act, on condition that they furnished a bail bond of Rs 20,000 each within seven days, the media has reported.
The judge observed that since the accused had no criminal records, they should be released on probation with an assurance of proper conduct.
Additionally, the court directed them not to contact the complainant or his relatives for two years. They were also ordered to submit their address and contact details.
Vasava is one of the five AAP MLA in Gujarat. He won from Dediapada, a scheduled tribes-reserved constituency in Narmada district in the December 2022 elections.
Earlier, Satish Vasava, a resident of Boraj village, alleged that the accused assaulted him and snatched his mobile phone and gold chain for promoting a rival group’s candidate in a gram panchayat election.
