The Gujarat government has given the green light to a road development project worth Rs 2,213.60 crore. This ambitious initiative aims to enhance connectivity across the state by constructing a 919-kilometre-long road, covering 94 stretches that connect small villages to bustling metro cities.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, a total of 94 projects have been sanctioned, encompassing the construction of four-lane, 10-meter-wide roads, road strengthening, bridges, and bypasses. These infrastructure upgrades will primarily focus on the state highways that link key areas such as ports, industrial centers, metropolises, and popular tourist destinations.
Additionally, as part of the Parikrama Path Yojana, which was announced in this year’s budget, the government has allocated funds amounting to Rs 467.09 crore for the widening of 289.32 kilometres of 37 roads across 17 districts. The objective is to expand these roads to a width of 10 meters, facilitating smoother transportation and fostering economic growth.
The responsibility for implementing the circular path scheme falls under the purview of the road and buildings department. The designated areas for this ambitious project include Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Dahod, Mahisagar, Anand, Narmada, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Dang, Bhavnagar, as well as Amreli, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Porbandar, and Devbhumi Dwarka districts.
As part of the comprehensive development plan, CM Patel has also allocated Rs 247.35 crore for the improvement and widening of 117.71 kilometres of eight roads connecting major metro cities such as Surat, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar. This will significantly enhance connectivity and reduce travel time for commuters.
Furthermore, in an effort to ensure sustainable infrastructure, Patel has sanctioned Rs 66 crore for road works covering a length of 16.40 kilometers on three state highways. These roads will be constructed using advanced white topping technology, promoting durability and longevity.
Moreover, a significant portion of the allocated funds, amounting to Rs 146.81 crore, will be dedicated to the construction of four-lane, 10-meter-wide roads spanning 177.50 kilometres. These roads will connect vital areas such as Mundra, and Dahej Port, and industrial hubs like Savli and Jhagadia, bolstering trade and commerce in the region.
Recognizing the importance of tourism, the government has set aside Rs 105.28 crore for the widening 142.62 kilometres of ten roads that form a part of the state’s popular tourist circuit. This development will ensure smoother access to attractions such as Vadnagar, Pavagadh, Dharoi-Ambaji, Jambughoda, Sasan Gir, and Somnath.
Under the Parikrama Path Yojana, an additional Rs 445.25 crore has been sanctioned for the four-laning of 71.73 kilometres of three roads, spanning Surendranagar, Amreli, and Kheda districts. This strategic investment will contribute to better connectivity and boost regional development.
Furthermore, to establish a high-speed corridor, CM Patel has approved Rs 465 crore for the construction of flyovers, vehicle underpasses (VUP), and pools along the Mehsana-Palanpur six-lane road.
This ambitious road development project reflects the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and fostering economic growth across the state. With enhanced connectivity and upgraded road networks, Gujarat is poised to become a hub of progress.
