The Surat Police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) apprehended a 25-year-old woman and seized 507 grams of MD drugs, valued at approximately Rs 50 lakh, from her residence in the Mora Bhagal area of the city on Saturday. Acting on a specific tip-off, the police raided her house and recovered the drugs.
The accused has been identified as Hina Gujjar, the wife of one Ismail Gujjar. She was taken into custody for her suspected involvement in a larger drug smuggling and peddling network. The consignment has been submitted to the forensic science team for analysis. Ismail, Hina’s husband, was arrested by the city police in June 2022 for his alleged involvement in a cocaine racket. Currently, he is serving his sentence in Lajpore jail. The police had previously arrested Ibrahim and his wife, Tanvir, who had arrived from Mumbai to sell the cocaine to Ismail.
The authorities are currently investigating the trail to determine the origin point of the narcotics chain.
