Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bhopal on Saturday morning to participate in the ongoing combined commanders’ conference and to officially launch the Vande Bharat Express, which will connect the state capital with Delhi.
When Modi arrived at the city airport at about 9.30 am, the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mangubhai Patel, and the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, greeted him.
The combined commanders’ conference is currently taking place at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre in the city, according to official sources.
According to the state unit president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Vishnu Dutt Sharma, the party had originally planned a massive roadshow in Bhopal to greet Prime Minister Modi, but it was postponed in the wake of the Thursday tragedy at the Indore temple, in which 36 people died.
From Bhopal’s Rani Kamalapati station, Modi will signal the Vande Bharat train to depart at around 3.15 p.m., according to the sources.
