The Election Commission announced on Wednesday that Karnataka’s Assembly elections will take place on May 10 and that the results will be announced on May 13.
Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner, announced during a press conference in New Delhi that the notification for the 224-member assembly elections will be issued on April 13 and that the deadline for submitting nomination papers will be April 20.
The nomination papers will be reviewed on April 21, according to Kumar, and the deadline for withdrawal of nominations is April 24.
In order to boost voter turnout, Kumar said the elections were set for a Wednesday rather than a Monday or Friday.
The opposition Congress party and the incumbent Bharatiya Janata party have already begun vigorous election campaigns.
