Birsa Munda International Airport is all set to fly direct to three new destinations. While Sunday saw a take-off to Goa, on Monday Ranchi gets a direct flight to temple town Deoghar (Jharkhand). Comes Tuesday and travellers would be able to avail a direct flight to Jaipur, Rajasthan.
“We are looking at boosting connectivity with the upcoming peak travel season (summer). Goa, Deoghar and Jaipur are the new additions. Indigo will fly to Goa, three days a week — Sunday, Monday and Friday. From Goa it will arrive in Ranchi on the mentioned days at 6.15 pm and depart at 6.45 pm. Similarly, the carrier will operate a 72-seater ATR to Deoghar on Monday. A flight from Kolkata will reach Ranchi at 3 pm, and will depart for Deoghar at 3.25 pm. For Jaipur, flights will be operated on three days — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. From Jaipur, a flight will arrive at 9.05 am and depart at 9.35 am,” an airport official briefed the media.
Notably, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)-approved domestic summer schedule came into force from Sunday and will remain on till October 28. The fixture lists approved flight services to six new destinations from Ranchi — Jaipur, Goa, Cochin, Mangalore, Visakhapatnam, Srinagar and Deoghar. New entry Akasa Airlines has also been approved to operate flights from Ranchi to Jaipur, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
Explaining the move to operate direct flights, the official added that there is a growing demand for the destinations. “However, the actual response will govern the feasibility of the sector,” he added.
Currently, around 31 flights operate daily from Ranchi airport to destinations such as Lucknow, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Patna, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Chennai. Major operators include Indigo, Vistara, and Go First.
