Gangster Atiq Ahmed, who had expressed concern that he would be killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police, reiterated his concerns as he was transferred from Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail to Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Sunday.
“Murder, murder,” Atiq Ahmed uttered outside Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati jail as he was led away in a police vehicle by security personnel.
In the morning, a team of Uttar Pradesh police reached the Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad and left the premises with Atuq Ahmed amid tight security around 6 pm.
He is scheduled to appear in court on March 28 in connection with a kidnapping case. He has been named in over 100 criminal cases, including the recent murder of Umesh Pal. Since June 2019, Atiq Ahmed has been imprisoned in the Sabarmati Central Jail. As a result of a Supreme Court order, he was relocated from his home state.
On March 1, he moved the top court saying the UP Police in all likelihood will seek his transit remand and expressed apprehension that he may be eliminated during this transit period.
Early on Sunday morning, a Prayagraj Police team arrived in Gujarat and devised a thorough strategy for the journey. According to police officials, the drive will take at least 36 hours and will chart the route through Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.
