Director Pradeep Sarkar, known for making films like Parineeta, Helicopter Eela and Mardaani, has passed away at 68. Pradeep Sarkar directed films such as “Parineeta,” “Helicopter Eela,” “Laga Chunari Mein Daag: Journey of a Woman,” “Lafange Parindey,” and “Mardaani.” Pradeep Sarkar passed away early on Friday morning at 3.30 am.
Director Hansal Mehta took to Twitter to pay tribute to the filmmaker.
Actors Ajay Devgn and Manoj Bajpayee also shared his condolences. “The news of Pradeep Sarkar’s demise, ‘Dada’ to some of us is still hard to digest. My deepest condolences. My prayers are with the departed and his family. RIP Dada,”
Devgn wrote. Hansal Mehta shared, “Pradeep Sarkar. Dada. RIP.”
Sarkar was well-known for his work in the advertising film industry. In the 1990s and early 2000s, he also directed music videos for songs such as Euphoria’s ‘Dhoom Pichak Dhoom’ and ‘Maaeri,’ and Shubha Mudgal’s ‘Ab Ke Saawan,’ among many others.
He began his film career with Rajkumar Hirani and was credited as the co-editor of Munna Bhai MBBS. Parineeta, starring Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan, and Sanjay Dutt, was his first directorial effort. Sarkar went on to direct Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, which starred Rani Mukerji, Konkona Sensharma, and Abhishek Bachchan. His other films as a director include Lafangey Parindey, Mardaani, and Helicopter Eela. His last film, Helicopter Eela, starred Kajol. He recently directed the web series Duranga for ZEE5.
In October 2022, Kangana Ranaut announced that she would be playing the lead role in his upcoming film Noti Binodini.
