Indian Railways is all set to run the Bharat Gaurav Delux AC tourist train, a specially designed tour for people who want to explore the North-Eastern states. The train will commence its journey from New Delhi on March 21 and cover 5,800 km across five states in the region over 15 days. The train can house up to 156 passengers. The package starts at INR 1,04,390 for triple sharing in Second AC and goes up to INR 1,50,100 for single occupancy in AC 1 cabin.
The train will begin from Delhi’s Safdarjung railway station and will route its way through Guwahati, Sivasagar, Furkating, and Kaziranga in Assam, Unakoti, Agartala, and Udaipur in Tripura, Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland, and Shillong and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya.
According to Sabyasachi De, CPRO, NF Railway: “The Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist train no. 00412 will depart from Delhi Safdarjung station at 15:20 hours on March 21. Tourists can board and deboard at Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Tundla, Etawah, Kanpur and Lucknow stations. Spanning over 14 nights and 15 days, the first halt will be Guwahati on March 23, where tourists will visit Kamakhya Temple followed by Umananda Temple and a sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra.”
On March 25, the train leaves for on an overnight journey to Naharlagun, 30 kilometres from the next destination, Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Thej following day, the train will map its journey to Sivasagar, the old capital of the Ahom Kingdom in the eastern part of Assam. Along with other heritage sites, the itinerary includes the famous Sivadol at Sivasagar. Tourists will also visit Jorhat’s tea gardens and stay overnight at Kaziranga, followed by an early morning jungle safari in the National Park.
The next day, the train will depart Furkating Railway Station for the state of Tripura. Sightseeing of the famous heritage sites of Unakoti and Agartala, including the famous Ujjayanta Palace, have been lined up. The second day of the Tripura stop will take tourists to the Neermahal palace and Tripura Sundari mandir at Udaipur.
The train is Dimapur-bound onwards March 29 to visit the state of Nagaland. Tourists will be taken by bus from Dimapur station to Kohima for sightseeing. Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya and the final leg of the tour, will see tourists visit Umiam Lake, Cherrapunji nestled in the East Khasi Hills, Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls, Nawkhalikai Falls and Mawsmai caves.
From Meghalaya, the train will chug its way back to Guwahati on April 1. Thereon, it will retrack to Delhi to conclude the trip on April 4.
The Bharat Gaurav trains, which were first launched in Gujarat, come equipped with two fine-dining restaurants, a modern kitchen, shower cubicles inside coaches, a foot massager and sensor-based washrooms, to provide you with the ultimate comfort. Along with that, security features such as CCTV cameras and security guards ensure that your safety is not compromised. For entertainment, the train has infotainment systems as well as a mini library.
