Climate changes continue to wreak havoc with agricultural yield across the country and Gujarat’s crops are no exception. Just when mango cultivators were looking at a hot spell for fruit ripening, the weatherman predicts wet days for the Saurashtra-Kutch region till Saturday.
While overcast skies were noted Wednesday morning in Surat, Tapi, Dang and Valsad, IMD forecasts the region’s weather to intensify over Thursday and Friday. The rains are being attributed to a western disturbance in the middle and upper tropospheric levels and an induced cyclonic circulation over Southwest Rajasthan and its neighbourhood in the lower tropospheric levels. This is likely to bring isolated to scattered rains with thunderstorms and lightning over the region.
The belt has been reeling under a hot and arid spell ever since the month began.
On the other hand, districts such as Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad are also in for some sprightly showers after a spike of 1-2 points till Friday. Most of Gujarat’s eastern half has been put in the orange category, thereby advising an alert for inclement weather. Northern districts like Patan and Deesa, meanwhile, recorded a blistering daytime temperature of 38°C, Tuesday with no respite in sight.
