Actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik died at the age of 66 on Wednesday in Delhi. The news of his death left the Hindi film industry in shock with many condoling the sudden demise. Satish was in Delhi when he suffered a heart attack while travelling in a car. His body will be brought to Mumbai on Thursday.
The ever-smiling actor was last spotted at Javed Akhtar Shabana Azmi’s Holi bash in Mumbai on March 7.
His friend and colleague Anupam Kher wrote, “I know “death is the ultimate truth of this world!” But I never thought in my dreams that I would write this thing about my best friend #SatishKaushik while alive. Such a sudden full stop on a friendship of 45 years!! Life will NEVER be the same without you SATISH! Om Shanti!”
Kaushik wore many hats in the Hindi film industry as an actor, producer, comedian and screenwriter. His breakthrough role came in the 1987 hit “Mr India,” where he played the cook “Calendar.” The role showcased the comic timing he would later become known for. He played memorable characters in several other films such as Ram Lakhan, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and Deewana Mastana.
To his credit, he also donned the director’s hat for several movies including Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Prem, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain and Tere Naam. Born on 13 April 1956, Kaushik graduated from Kirori Mal College in Delhi University and went on to study at the National School of Drama.
He was active on Twitter, where he often shared memories of his career. In 2020, he had posted a photo of his arrival in Mumbai city in 1979 to become an actor – the tweet was met with an outpouring of love and affection.
Bolly actors took to their social media handles shortly after the news. Priyanka Chopra shared her grief after Satish Kaushik’s untimely death.
Actor Akshay Kumar too expressed his grief in a tweet.
