A senior election official said on Saturday that the Election Commission has for the first time in Tripura, designated a counting observer for each of the 60 Assembly constituencies to guarantee a free and fair process.
Assembly elections were held across the northeastern state on February 16. Votes will be counted on March 2. Up to 60 counting observers have been assigned by the Election Commission to ensure a free and fair count of all assembly constituencies.
According to Tripura’s Chief Electoral Officer, S Bandopadhyay, observers should arrive by February 28.
It means that one counting observer has been assigned by the poll panel for each assembly section, a first for the northeastern state, he said. According to Bandopadhyay, Chief Secretary J K Sinha, CEO Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarrao, and DGP Amitabh Ranjan had already visited all eight districts and met with district magistrates and police superintendents.
He said that they had assessed the general security situation in each district and made an inventory of the security measures. According to the official, counting would take place under strict security in 21 counting centres.
