The day to tribute and show appreciation towards the mentors for providing guidance and showing path that can lead a bright future is Teachers’ Day. Celebrated on 5th September in India, various schools and colleges celebrate the day by making the students step in the shoes of teachers.
GLS University’s Faculty of Commerce, SMPIC (B.Com. Hons) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat organized Teachers Day Virtual Celebrations on 4th September, Saturday to pre-celebrate the teachers’ day. On account of celebrations, the college organized two online competitions – online teaching competition and online elocution competition.
The students of all the three years participated in the competitions. They taught the fellow students via online medium. Sharing their experiences, the teacher for a day, Parth Bansal said “I prepared a presentation for the session. The students were very interactive, which made my presentation successful. Overall, it was an awesome experience and I’m pleased to get this opportunity.” It seems easier to be on the receiving end as a student but when it comes to giving end, makes you realize the situation of the teacher on the other side. Sharing such an experience, Diya said, “Today I personally experienced what happens when your students don’t reply you to your questions. Heads off to my teachers who very smoothly manages to activate us on the chat box. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to deliver this class and in return to get the experience.”
Another competition was an online elocution competition. The topic for the elocution competition was “Teaching and learning during pandemic: A Unique Experience.” More than 50 students participated in the competition. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Gitanjali Rampal said, “As a teacher I would like to say that I was overwhelmed and was even happily stunned to see the confidence, wonderful presentation techniques and the subject clarity with which the students taught in the class. I am really thankful to my students because their love and respect is the fuel that keeps us motivated in these trying times.”
