A proposal to enhance the number of workdays under the ‘Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme’ from 100 to 125, has been approved by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
According to a statement from the state government, the scheme, which was developed in the same manner as the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA programme of the central government, is helping the jobless in urban areas.
The new rule will take effect on April 1st, 2023. According to the statement, it will cost almost Rs 1,100 crore to give the unemployed in cities an additional 25 days of work. The statement was made by Gehlot in the budget for 2023–2024. The plan was put into action in 2022–2023.
The scheme provided 100 days of employment per family last year, with a budget of Rs 800 crore. As part of the scheme, individuals can obtain a job card by presenting their Jan Aadhaar card and completing other requirements.
The scheme offers employment in a number of areas, including preservation of the environment, conservation of water, preservation of cultural heritage, cleanliness, public service, convergence, and prevention of property distortion.
In accordance with the statement, the scheme has generated more than 4.51 lakh job cards and placed more than 6.94 lakh people to work.
