Trailing the case of a missing child led Valsad police to Nepali national Lekhe Khamal. The 35-year-old, was living in Vapi (Valsad district) as Ramesh Nepali.
According to Dungara (Madhya Pradesh) PS Inspector, V.G. Bharva, one Mahesh Garasiya lodged a complaint, alleging that Ramesh Nepali, a watchman working at Saiveer Industrial Park, had kidnapped his six-year-old daughter. The complainant suspected Ramesh’s involvement as he was missing since Wednesday (Feb 9) afternoon and so was his daughter.
Immediately three teams were formed and Ramesh Nepali’s phone was put on technical surveillance. Since he hailed from Nepal, police suspected that he must have moved towards North India, and dispatched a team. Finally, within 24 hours, Ramesh was nabbed.
During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. “Further, he broke down and stated to being a serial offender. He has so far kidnapped six other children, between the ages six to 12, including two boys, and sold them in Nepal. He came to Valsad about eight months ago and was working as watchman at a construction site. He also stated to having worked in different districts of UP and Maharashtra. We suspect he might have kidnapped more children there,” shared Valsad SP, Rajdeep Zala. The district police is now re-visiting the case.
The police are anticipating his arrest to be an important link in the child trafficking racket, with well entrenched roots in the Gulf countries and in Nepal.
