The kapat (doors) of Shri Kedarnath Dham, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, will be opened on April 25, according to an announcement made at Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath during a programme. The date of the doors’ opening is traditionally set on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. The kapat of Shri Kedarnath Temple has been closed for the season, but darshan can be made at Omkareshwar Temple’s winter abode.
The Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) had made special preparations for the ceremony, including the decoration of the entire temple complex with flowers.
Religious rituals in Omkareshwar temple began early in the morning on the occasion of Shivratri. Temple priests offered bhog along with Mahabhishek Puja in the sanctum sanctorum after bathing and adorning God. Following this, Vedpathi Panchag set the date for the opening of Kedarnath Dham.
Bhajan-kirtan will be performed throughout the day in the Omkareshwar temple premises by Vidyapeeth students, workers, and the temple committee’s ‘Mahila Mangal Dal’.
Previously, on the occasion of Basant Panchami, the time and date for the opening of the famous temple were determined in a special function held at Rajmahal in Narendra Nagar. The doors of Shri Badrinath Dham will reopen the following morning, April 27.
The Badrinath Dham is one of four ancient pilgrimage sites known as the ‘Char Dham,’ along with Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath. It is located in the Uttarakhand town of Badrinath. Every year, it is open for six months (between the end of April and the beginning of November).
