Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign minister of Iran, is reported to have cancelled his visit to India scheduled for next month to attend a geopolitics conference. He is believed to have been upset by the fact that the event’s promotional video includes a brief clip of demonstrating Iranian women alongside an image of President Ebrahim Raisi.
The Ministry of External Affairs and the Iranian embassy in New Delhi have declined to make official statements on the subject.
According to those with knowledge of the situation, Abdollahian was supposed to attend the Raisina Dialogue on March 3 and 4, but he decided against it because of a video clip that the Iranian side believes unfairly portrays Tehran.
The Raisina Dialogue is regarded as India’s top geopolitical and geoeconomic forum. The MEA and the Observer Research Foundation are working together to execute this.
The video, which has a total runtime of one minute and 50 seconds, includes segments on significant worldwide issues and events, such as the conflict in Ukraine, the international backlash against China’s aggressive behaviour in the South China Sea, and the Iranian women’s marches.
Regarding the Iranian foreign minister’s visit to India, there was no formal statement.
