In a show of solidarity with a disaster-stricken ally, the Indian Army has dispatched a medical team and specialized forces to Turkey through its “Operation Dost.” The operation saw aircraft loaded with supplies and personnel sent from New Delhi to the earthquake-affected country.
In a remarkable effort, the Indian Army went above and beyond by setting up a fully equipped field hospital in Hatay. The hospital boasts an X-ray lab, a medical supply store, and a range of medical facilities including surgical and emergency wards.
The touching images of the Indian Army personnel building the hospital and treating local residents have been widely shared on social media, including by the Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, and other key officials. One image that particularly stood out showed a senior Turkish citizen hugging and kissing a female Indian officer in appreciation for the service provided by the Indian Army. The caption of the image read “We Care.”
As of Thursday evening, the sixth plane from India carrying rescuers, supplies, and medical aid for earthquake relief activities has arrived in Turkey. The plane included additional rescue teams, dog squads, and essential medications for the earthquake-stricken nation.
Turkish Ambassador to India, Firat Sunel, described “Operation Dost” as a “very important operation” that highlights the strong friendship between the two countries.
