Around 125 flyers from several countries participated in the International Kite Festival based on the G-20 theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
The week-long festival began on January 8 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. There was a great deal of excitement given that the festival was being organised after a gap of two years. The previous edition was held in 2020 with 153 participants from 43 countries.
Organised by Gujarat Tourism, the festival took place across the state in cities such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Dwarka, Somnath, Dhordo and Kevadia.
“The kite festival is an opportunity to touch the sky and reach new heights. Kites are a symbol of progress, prosperity, and flight,” stated Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel at the inauguration on January 8.
Tourists revelled as kites filled the skies at the Vadodara chapter on Saturday. The city was host to kite flyers from Australia, Canada, France, Russia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Egypt, Colombia, Denmark, New Zealand, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, Belgium, Bahrain, Iraq and Malaysia. Tourists, including children, visited the kite flying ground in Vadodara to witness the vibrant kites flown by participants from different countries.
In all, Vadodara saw 125 registered flyers at the celebrations. Apart from international participants, 65 kite flyers from 14 states in India and 660 from different parts of the state also took part in the event which ended on January 14.

“I am very happy that we are back again in the kite fields,” shared Constantine from Greece.
Kites of all shapes and colours, including those shaped like iconic video game characters filled the skies.
