Ahead of the Uttarayan celebrations on January 14, the GVK-run Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which provides ambulance services in Gujarat, expects a 32% increase in emergency calls compared to normal day emergencies.
Thread-cut injuries are one of the most common non-vehicular traumas during Uttarayan. EMRI predicts an increase in vehicular trauma incidents as a result of people moving from one location to another. Falls and physical assaults are also expected to increase, according to officials.
According to the GVK-EMRI district forecast, emergency case reporting will increase the most in Rajkot (60%) on January 14, followed by Gandhinagar (59%), Bharuch (53%), Vadodara (51%), and Ahmedabad (46%).
On January 14, the emergency service provider expects 949 emergency calls involving vehicular trauma, a 122% increase over normal days, when it receives 426 such calls on average. The expected calls are also higher than the 776 calls for vehicular trauma received by the 108 ambulance services on January 14, last year.
Non-vehicular trauma incidents, which include falls, physical assault, crush injury, burns, and other incidents, are also expected to increase by 172% on January 14 compared to normal days, with 885 such calls expected versus the normal days’ average of 325 such calls. The forecast exceeds the number of calls for non-vehicular trauma incidents received by the emergency services on January 14, last year (729).
GVK-EMRI, which also manages the 1962 Karuna Animal Ambulance services with a fleet of 37 such ambulances and an additional 55 ambulances deployed from January 11 to January 20, anticipates a 120% increase in calls for animal emergencies, with 1,996 such calls expected compared to the normal day average of 904 such calls.
