The Kashmir Files, the most acclaimed film by Vivek Agnihotri, has been shortlisted for an Oscar on the Academy’s first list. On Tuesday, the filmmaker announced the news on Twitter.
According to Vivek Agnihotri, actors Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborthy, Darshan Kumar, and Pallav Joshi have also been selected for the best actor award. The shortlist for the Oscars includes “Kantara” by Rishab Shetty, “Gangubai Kathiawadi” by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, “The Chhello Show” by Pan Nalin, and “RRR” by SS Rajamouli.
Marathi movies Tujhysa Sathi Khai, Me Vasantrao Hello, and the Kannada movies “Vikrant Rona ” and “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect ” have both been nominated for Oscars in 2023. The documentaries “The Elephant Whisperers” by Kartiki Gonsalves and “All That Breathes” by Shaunak Sen are also included on the list.
‘Kantara’ filmmaker Rishab Shetty, who has also acted in the film took to Twitter to share his joy and wrote, “We are overjoyed to share that ‘Kantara’ has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to sharing this journey ahead with all of your support. Can’t wait to see it shine at the Oscars.”
With a budget of less than Rs 16 crore when it was first released in Kannada, “Kantara” went on to become one of the highest-grossing Kannada films, grossing an astounding Rs 400 crore at the box office.
‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ director and actor R Madhavan also used Twitter to post a screenshot of the Oscar shortlist. The movie was a biography of ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was eventually cleared of all charges in the ISRO espionage case.
