A division of the city police called Special-58 Watchers Group will be on the lookout for those who stir up unrest during Uttarayan. Those who utilise the outlawed Chinese Manja are also included.
The group will take a picture of the criminal and send it to the appropriate police station for further course of action. According to a senior city police official, 58 officers from the special branch of the city police would go across the city in civvies and private automobiles for this reason.
The policeman said, “The team will also keep an eye on the kite markets to obtain information on those who deal in Chinese Manja and lanterns.” The group’s information has been used in more than half of the Chinese Manja and lantern seizures that have been made so far.
Additionally, the group has been placed in Walled City sensitive regions where group confrontations during Uttarayan may occur. The group is also gathering data on anyone who tries to smuggle alcohol into the city, or bootleggers.
Drug traffickers are also being seen in places like the SG Highway, CG Road, Navrangpura, Sola, Sindhu Bhavan Road, and SP Ring Road and they all are under surveillance.
