The body of a 25-year-old female physiotherapist, Hemangi Derik, was recovered from Tapi river on Wednesday under mysterious circumstances. While cops suspect that it may be a case of death by suicide, the fact that she was married just 27 days ago is an angle which the cops are probing.
According to the police sources, the deceased had married a man named Derik, associated with a mobile phone business just 27 days ago.
A resident of Palanpur Patiya in Surat, she left home as usual on Tuesday morning. However, when she did not return in the evening, her family initiated a hunt, which went on through the night. On Wednesday morning, her body was found floating in the river near Hanuman Tekri.
Prima facie the police suspect it to be a case of suicide, stated ACP L.B. Zala. “However, we have not found a suicide not as yet,” he stated, adding that investigation is on.
Sources briefed that mystery surrounds the death. When she did not return home on Tuesday evening, her family members called the clinic only to be informed that she did not turn up at work either.
“The phone location was traced to the river bank of Tapi near Hanuman Tekri. Hemangi had come home in the noon after the morning shift and then left again on the moped. When she did not report on time, employees of the clinic called up Derik, who in turn, inquired about her whereabouts at her parental house. After Derik’s call we all searched for her the entire night and later lodged a missing person report at Rander Police station,” family members traced the timeline of events.
