The next time you rush through the airport in Ahmedabad, be aware that you can end up paying a fee. If a car approaches the airport to pick up or drop off passenger speeds, the airport authorities have decided to levy a punishment of Rs 1,000. This was done because driving too fast endangers the safety of passengers.
According to officials, many cars accelerate in order to avoid paying parking fines if they stay too long, and they have even heard some complaints about it. There is a lot of chaos, particularly at the turn near the statue of Sardar Patel. The airport has a 30 km/hr speed limit.
Prior to a significant outcry, the airport administration had started fining people for parking on interior roadways but had since stopped.
