On December 30, during his visit to the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open the freshly constructed Joka-Taratala metro segment (Purple Line) of Kolkata Metro. According to officials, the Joka-Taratala leg of the Joka-Esplanade Metro Project would be inaugurated via video conference from the Howrah railway station.
The inaugural Vande Bharat Express train in West Bengal, which runs on Friday and connects the major cities of Howrah and New Jalpaiguri, will also be inaugurated by the PM.
Last week, a test run was conducted on the 6.5 kilometre long section of the Joka-Esplanade Metro project. At a cost of Rs 2,475 crore, the Metro Project’s newly built portion has been built. The recently constructed section will promote quick communication and local trade. Residents of southern suburbs like Sarsuna, Dakghar, Muchipara, and South 24 Parganas stand to gain a great deal from the Metro project.
The laying of the cornerstone for the renovation of the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is one of the numerous projects that are scheduled to be completed during PM Modi’s visit. The station is expected to be built for around Rs 335 crore.
