Gujarat police detained activist and TMC national spokesperson Saket Gokhale. He is held in connection with a tweet he posted regarding the Morbi Bridge disaster. TMC leader Derek O’Brien informed via tweet.
Saket Gokhale was traveling from Delhi to Jaipur. Upon his arrival at Jaipur airport, Gujarat police arrested him at 2 in the morning. Derek O’Brien tweeted that the police let Saket Gokhale make a two-minute phone call to his mother and then confiscated his phone and all
his belongings. Saket Gokhale is being brought to Ahmedabad, he informed.
Derek O’Brien termed the case a cooked-up case filed with the Ahmedabad cyber cell.
TMC’s Saket Gokhale shared a news item that claimed that ₹30 crores were spent on PM Modi’s Morbi visit after collapsing of the bridge. Gokhale had shared a news clipping from an unnamed Gujarati newspaper which referred to an RTI reply as the base of allegations. BJP countered that not only there was no such report published in any newspaper and there was no such RTI reply in existence either.
While curbing the menace of fake news is important, many have questioned the alacrity with which the Government prioritizes going after people belonging to the opposition camps.
