BJP election manifesto for Gujarat assembly elections appears to be lacklustre in its approach towards agriculturists. Critics point out that the suggestions received on the app have been disregarded as far as farmers’ issues are concerned.
Some of the major issues concerning farmers include police cases against the farm owner if a nilgai (bluebuck) is found injured on the farm, even if it had been shot at, at another place by someone else. Nilgais are a serious menace the farmers face in a major part of Gujarat. The bovine is known to damage the standing crop.
There had been a longstanding demand of the farmers to constitute Kisan Vikas Nigam to channel the benefits meant for farmers in a systematic manner. The demand has not been addressed in the BJP manifesto. Farmers have also been demanding to set up specialised market yards in Unjha for cumin seeds and Palanpur for potatoes. This expectation has also not been met.
Leaders of farming communities also point out that their demand to remove electricity duty has been rejected.
