Zydus Lifesciences chairman Pankaj Patel has been appointed the new chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), in place of Kumarmangalan Birla, whose term expired on 15 November. Patel has been on the IIMA Board for the past eight years. He is also on the Board of IIM-Udaipur and a Director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Patel takes over as IIMA chairman at a time when the institute is facing some turbulence over the change in its logo and plans to demolish some iconic buildings in its old campus. Some of the institute’s faculty members have been up in arms, saying they were not consulted before these important decisions were taken. One faculty member, Saral Mukherjee, recently resigned from the post of Dean, Alumni & External Relations, over this issue.
