Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mission Schools of Excellence project at Trimandir, Adalaj. Modi launched the ambitious project that has an investment of more than Rs 10,000 crore.  During the event, Modi also launched projects worth around Rs 4,260 crore. The mission will help to strengthen the education infrastructure in Gujarat through setting up of new classrooms, smart classrooms, computer labs and overall upgradation of infrastructure of schools in the state.

The main event was held at Dadangar Convention Centre in Adalaj and was attended by more than 20,000 teachers and school management committee members from schools across the state. The mission focuses on strengthening the government schools with more than 120 students and developing them into Schools of Excellence.

Under this mission, 20,000 government schools including 15,000 primary schools and 5,000 grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools have been selected for holistic development. The number of students in these schools is estimated to increase from 59 lakh to 63 lakh.

The PM further added there were villages where girls were not sent to school and in tribal areas, the few education centres that were available had no facility to teach Science. “Ahead of smart services, smart classrooms & smart teaching, 5G will take our education system to the next level. Students will easily experience Virtual Reality and Internet of Things in schools. Gujarat has taken the first step in the country for this, through Mission Schools of Excellence,” Modi said.
