The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) unit arrested four Italians on Sunday, October 2, 2022, allegedly vandalising two parked coaches of the Ahmedabad Metro with graffiti at Apparel Park in Gomtipur.
The accused were presented before a magistrate judge and placed in police custody pending more investigation.
The group of four Italians invaded Charkop Mumbai Metro Depot last month to vandalise the Metro coaches. Following their failed effort in Mumbai, the foreign nationals travelled to Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and entered the Metro rail premises, spraying graffiti on two coaches last Friday, September 30. On Sunday, the Crime Branch in the area detained them and an Ahmedabad court committed them to judicial custody.
The MHB colony police in Mumbai caught four Italians on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, namely Cudini Gianluca Italiana, 24, Baldo Sacha Italiana, 29, Starinieri Danileli Italiana, 21 and Capecci Paolo Italiana, 27.
The incident in Mumbai happened at 4.35 am on September 26 when two Italians entered the Metro depot area while carrying two bags and a rod. CCTV cameras at the depot captured the images. They were reportedly carrying many cameras, according to the officials. The individuals were dressed in black, wore face masks and caused a security panic, according to police.
When the guards spotted them, they panicked and ran away. In response to a complaint from the Maharashtra State Security Corporation, the police filed an FIR under sections 447 (criminal trespass) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against four unidentified individuals (IPC). The cops were able to identify them using CCTV cameras.
The FIR filed in Gujarat claimed that between 2.37 and 2.52 am, three of the Italians leapt over the Apparel Park depot wall in Gomtipur, home of the Ahmedabad Metro line. “They entered the area between two parked coaches, T-14 and T-15, and wrote ‘TATA’ with… different colours outside both coaches.” The electric poles between the two Metro coaches were graffitied with the word “TAS.” The Italians have inflicted almost Rs 50,000 in damage to public property.
The incident happened in Gujarat last Friday, September 30, just hours before when PM Narendra Modi was about to inaugurate Phase 1 of the Ahmedabad Metro rail service in a different area of the city, according to the Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) unit.
