The autumn equinox arrives on Thursday, September 22, 2022. The word “equinox” comes from Latin and means “equal night,” referring to the roughly 12-hour day and 12-hour night that occurs only on the two equinox days of the year.
A day when Shiva sat as Ardhanari – half man, half woman. For a human being, the significance of this day is that the masculine and feminine are at an even keel – within our own system, there is a level playing field.
Masculine and feminine are not about being physically male or female. Certain qualities in nature have been identified as masculine. Certain other qualities have been identified as feminine. You may be a man, but it is possible that the feminine may be dominant in you. Or, you may be a woman, but the masculine may be dominant in you. Only when these two qualities happen in balance within a human being, can one live a life of fulfillment.
The equinox is the time to become unprejudiced. The fundamental process of prejudice is that you get identified with your body and thought. The equinox is a day to bring balance, to not be identified with this or that, not even being a man or a woman, not even being human or another creature – just to sit and throb as life.
The Autumn Equinox is a meaningful time of year to honor the harvest. Whether that be a “real” harvest of the things planted in your garden or the harvest of efforts and intentions for your life path that you set earlier in the year.
Spiritually speaking, fall represents the harvest time of year, a time to acknowledge growth and expansion as a natural evolution of our organic being. Our lives go through cycles of growth, harvest, death, and rebirth just as we see in nature.
As the Earth is coming alive again, we can focus on renewal and awakening. This is an excellent period to also focus on moderation and balance, with the day and night in total alignment. As we are stepping further into the light, this is also a time of clarity after confusion, reflection and stillness. Welcome in enlightenment, inspiration and new beginnings.
This passionate vibration inspires us to take chances, follow our hearts and strike out as a leader. Setting intentions and planting new seeds through action can help us manifest our ultimate goals. It’s time to envision what you’d like to build in the coming year and start to make it happen!
This is the time of year to go within and empty out space, composting our old ideas and using the energy they hold to make fertile soil for new creativity and matured visions.
