CEO of Google and recipient of Padma Bhushan this year, Sundar Pichai visited the Indian Embassy in US Capital. This was the first occasion when a prominent Indian American IT CEO visited the Indian embassy in Washington DC. The meeting comes in the wake of the Indian government’s determined outreach to American CEOs. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with a number of Silicon Valley CEOs during his visit to California at the beginning of this month.
Pichai tweeted, “Thank you”, after his meeting with Taranjit Singh Sandhu, India’s ambassador to the US. They talked about the tech giant’s operations and its aggressive drive toward digitization. “I appreciated the chance to discuss Google’s commitment to India and look forward to continuing our support for India’s digital future.” Pichai said.
The ambassador of India to the Us, Sandhu on his part said to have “exchanged perspectives on increasing the India-US commercial, knowledge, and tech collaboration with Google.” with the CEO of Alphabet and Google.
Google under Pichai, has declared an approximately $10 billion commitment to India’s digitization programme. Also, apart from having joint ventures with Bharti Airtel and Jio, Google collaborates with India on workforce and skill development.
Google’s investment in India has also increased dramatically. It’s reach has also increased manifold with it’s collaboration with the government on the national digital literacy programme and the Digital India Program.
Pichai said he appreciates initiatives taken by India and underlined India’s importance in its plan to train the younger generation. Indian Ambassador also said that India’s digital transformation is a government priority.
