The Surat police have arrested three persons from Mumbai after a Surat businessman filed complaints against them for “hate posts” on social media. An FIR was registered by the textile trader in Surat.
According to the police, Champaklal Mehta who resides in Paal area of Surat complained that he was a member of a WhatsApp group called Pratuttar which was run by Yogesh, Nikesh and Naresh Shah, all Jains from Mumbai. This was a religious group with Jains as group members.
In his complaint, Mehta said that the accused used to post hate speech to create enmity between two religious groups. The crime branch team arrested all three accused from Mumbai on Monday and brought them to Surat. Surat city Crime Branch police inspector ML Salunke said, “The WhatsApp group admins were sharing hate comments in the group. They also put objectionable comments about religious leaders and political leaders. When group members objected, they argued back vehemently”
