Apple launched its much-awaited iPhone 14 series during its ‘Far Out’ event in California on September 7. The new lineup has four models—iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The latest iPhone models will be available in India from September 16, except for the Plus model, launched instead of the Mini version, which will be available from October 7.
The brand has increased the launch price of its iPhones in the UK by up to £150 as inflation and the falling value of the pound hit British smartphone users. The latest iPhone 14 Pro, its flagship device, will start at £1,099. That is a jump from £949 for its iPhone 13 Pro, its main high-end phone last year. The iPhone 14, its less powerful phone, is £70 more expensive on its launch than its iPhone 13 was last year.
However, Apple is keeping the dollar-price of its iPhones the same. Its flagship phones in the US will start at $999 (£867). The US price excludes sales taxes, while the UK price includes VAT.
Ben Woods, an analyst at CCS Insight, said, “Although iPhone pricing in the US remains flat, in markets like UK, Apple has been obliged to increase pricing in local currency given the strength of US dollar.”
For customers in India, the price of iPhone 14 starts at ₹79,900. iPhone 14 Plus is available at ₹89,900, while iPhone 14 Pro is for Rs 1,29,900 and iPhone 14 Pro Max for Rs 1,39,900. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available in deep purple, silver, gold, and space black in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities.
The iPhone — for the first time in five years — gets an all-new display that features a pill-shaped design. Apple also revealed a new emergency satellite connectivity service for its iPhone 14 smartphone that can send text messages for help even when a user has no mobile phone signal. It also updated its smartwatch range, adding a more expensive Apple Watch Ultra model, designed for elite athletes and adventurers.
Apple’s service, which will launch in November, will beat rivals such as Elon Musk in developing a satellite mobile service. Other companies are working on similar technology.
