In a late evening announcement on Sunday, Harpal Singh Chudasama was appointed Gujarat Youth Congress chief. The move comes a day before Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state. Harpal Singh has been a rising name in the state’s Youth Congress ranks and was currently the National Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress.
The incumbent Vishwanath Vaghela resigned from his post earlier in the day. In his resignation letter, Vaghela mentions: “I resign as the chief of the Congress Party’s Youth Wing. I have been a victim of the internal factionalism emerging within the party. People do not let me work and interfere all the time. A conspiracy is being designed to put down the Congress party and it is surrounded with sycophants. The youth are exploited within the party.”
Adding further, he stated: “The youth do not see any future in the Congress. The top bearers doubt the work of the party members. There is no respect for the seniors or the juniors. What did Congress do to build the integrity of the nation? Congress must join the forces working for the righteousness and integration of the country.” It is being speculated that Vaghela (35), made president of the Gujarat Youth Congress in January this year, is all set to join another party soon.
Meanwhile, after the massive show of strength in the capital on Sunday, where at the Ramlila Grounds the Congress held a “mehengai pe halla bol” rally, Rahul Gandhi’s is scheduled to visit Gujarat on Monday. The visit is being seen as RaGa’s drill to get the Congress party into aggressive election mode, ahead of the Assembly elections in December.
He is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad early Monday morning and thereon proceed for a Parivartan Sankalp at 11 am. This convention of booth-level workers will be held at the Sabarmati riverfront. Veteran leader and senior observer for the party during elections, Ashok Gehlot, is also expected to be present.
The interaction with grass root workers will be crucial in reviving the party’s lost fortunes in Gujarat. Alongside, the meet will end with RaGa leading the gathering to seek the Mahatma’s blessings at Sabarmati Ashram ahead of the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, slated for Sept 7.
