The prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration at Mussoorie has cancelled the scheduled lecture of the former deputy sarpanch of Kunariya village in Kutch, Gujarat.
Kunariya village, in Kutch dist, Gujarat, is known to have been taking initiatives in education, employment and ecological regeneration to improve the lives of its residents.
The revocation came after the news that a car belonging to Sureshbhai Chhanga was seized in a raid on illegal liquor.
Former deputy sarpanch Sureshbhai was scheduled to give a lecture in one of the most important institutes of administration which trains the IAS officers. He was the only person from Kutch selected for the lecture. The Kutch District Sarpanch Association had also applauded Sureshbhai’s nomination. Sureshbhai was to acquaint trainee IAS officers with his specialized knowledge of about rural development and Panchayati Raj at Mussoorie Academy. He had made 29 slides presentation on Powerpoint also for the occasion.
When the news came out about the direct or indirect involvement, going by the maxim ” Caesar’s wife should be above suspicion”, the administrators at LBSNAA decided to drop the name of Sureshbhai from the coveted list. The present director of the academy K. Srinivasan IAS, Gujarat cadre officer, when got a whiff of the controversy, and immediately roped in Sanjay Joshi, an additional collector level officer of the ‘GAS’ cadre working at the academy for an inquiry. After his detailed investigation and report, Sureshbahi’s name was scrapped.
With the timely intervention of the LBSNAA director, the academy is spared major embarrassment. Sureshbhai could have lectured more than 500 civil servants in Gram Panchayat administration and rural development for their foundation course. Newly appointed IAS officers are trained under the foundation course at an academy in Mussoorie after passing the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
