AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal has sworn a ‘Maha Vyapam Scam’ in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Gujarat. On Tuesday, he recalled the incidents related to the leakage of question papers of state government recruitment examinations over the years.
He promised a law against the paper leak with a provision of 10-year jail if people vote the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to power in the Assembly polls, due later in 2022.
“Did anybody go to jail for leaking papers? They will now go to jail (when AAP forms a government). Madhya Pradesh had the ‘Vyapam scam. In Gujarat, a ‘Maha Vyapam scam’ is going on,” Kejriwal alleged. On Tuesday, the Delhi Chief Minister addressed a town hall meeting of youth at Bhavnagar.
In 2013, a Vyampam scam surfaced in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh related to the entrance examination, admission, and recruitment. Vyapam refers to the Hindi acronym for Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board.
“They made the CBI conduct raids on Manish Sisodia (Delhi Deputy CM) based on a false case even when he did nothing wrong. But CBI did not conduct any raid against those involved in leaking the (government exam) papers (in Gujarat). Why? Because people behind the paper leak are their own,” the Delhi Chief Minister asked.
Manish Sisodia also accompanied Kejriwal on the second day of his two-day visit to Gujarat.
Vyapam scam had fake examination sheets forged by government employees and candidates with the help of a few politicians. In 2015, Supreme Court issued an order that turned the matter under the Central Bureau of Investigation. During the assembly, Kejriwal mentioned a list of cases of paper leaks in Gujarat since 2015. If elected, the AAP leader promised to take severe measures against offenders.
“They can’t conduct exams, how will they run the government?” he asked.
“If the AAP forms a government in Gujarat, it will come out with a law against the paper leak with a provision of 10 years jail. We will also reopen the paper leak cases after 2015. The inquiry will be conducted and all found guilty will be sent to jail. Beware of leaking the paper after December (elections),” he said.
Kejriwal asserted that a minister in Gujarat had stated that members of the ruling party would be preferred when applying for government positions.
“Do government jobs belong to your father? Government jobs do not belong to any party but Gujarat’s youths. We will conduct recruitment transparently and change the process,” he said.
Kejriwal reaffirmed AAP’s pledge to produce 15 lakh jobs and find work for every young person in Gujarat over the following five years.
He said that the AAP would create a recruiting schedule for the openings for Talati, teachers, sub-inspectors, and assistant sub-inspectors filled within the first year of the party’s office.
