The international watchdog and governing body of world football, FIFA (the Federation International De Football Association) put on hold the hosting rights of women’s under-17 world cup in the wake of discord appearing in All India Football Federation (AIFF) due to the ‘third party’ intermediation.
Taking into consideration the serious violation of FIFA statutes, the Bureau of the FIFA Council collectively decided to suspend the AIFF, according to the official statement.
Although, the deferment is seen to be temporary and would be scrapped once the AIFF administration reacquires the complete authority of AIFF’s daily undertakings. This hold-up will put the chances of India’s U-17 world-cup at risk. The event is scheduled to be held from October 11 till 30th, 2022 in India.
Earlier in May 2022, the apex court of India had withheld Praful Patel and his executive committee from duties and responsibilities. Later, a fresh committee of administrators (CoA) were appointed to look after the internal dealings and operations of the AIFF.
The FIFA-AFC team along with CoA held their first meeting on June 21st, 2022. A 12-member advisory committee was assigned to observe the daily business and on-goings in AIFF’s various departments.
In the wake of several events, the CoA touched upon and highlighted various aspects during a meeting held with a seven-member committee on behalf of state associations of the AIFF to prepare a draft constitution. A dis-satisfaction surfaced among the members while finalising the final draft constitution.
A bench led by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud agreed upon to establish a 27-day time election schedule chiefly prepared by the CoA. Advocate Gopal Sankarnarayan was chosen to manage the undertakings of the AIFF.
As of now, the apex court directs the election guidelines to the executive committee of the AIFF.
